To create a modern contemporary landscape to surround the clients’ beautifully converted barn, maintaining an agricultural flavour, using traditional materials in a modern design ethos.
The new garden has been built on a 300-year-old farmyard, so excavating tones of old hardcore to create space and drainage for the new soils of the landscape. Then the installation of linear rows of hop poles with a climbing wire structure for hops, linear rows of perennials to provide bursts of colour in the season, Green Oak decked terraces and a boardwalk suspended over the planting, a Portland stone terrace and water feature, a cranked lawn on a gradient of 23 degrees and an organic vegetable garden. Landscape lighting to uplight the tall wired frames, recessed surface wash lighting, and automated Irrigation to planted areas and the vegetable, harvested rainwater from the roof spaces.
